We didn't take many pictures that day (I didn't expect that it would be so crazy!), but we had a great time. We had a bunch of family & friends over to my parents' house for a BBQ & pool party. Noah had lunch, cake, went swimming, opened so many wonderful gifts & had spaghetti for dinner. He was quite the exhausted birthday boy by the time it was all over!
Many thanks to all of you for loving & celebrating our little boy with us!

The Cake!
Forgive me, but I have to brag: I did this all by myself!
Though I've long known that I wanted to do something special for Noah's 1st birthday cake, I didn't know how to pull it off (I've never done anything like this before). And presto! In comes amazing Lisa, Noah's babysitter (& the woman who used to babysit me & my sisters!) She actually owns her own business, making cakes & decorations for weddings.
So one night she blessed me with 3 hours of 'cake making school' in her kitchen, and this was the finished product. It was so much fun to do, but man is this hard work! I thought my hand would fall off by the time I finished the basketball.
And if you're wondering, the colors aren't red & blue - that's crimson & blue (I won't push a team allegiance on Noah once he can decide for himself, but until then, he's a Kansas fan!)
Noah wasn't sure what to do with his cake at first - he patted it, then wanted me to feed it to him, then poked at it with the fork. But once we got him started & introduced the ice cream, he loved it! So much so that we had to eventually plop him in the kiddie pool. Marley loved being the clean-up crew!

Thinking Back...
On July 26 a year ago, I looked something like this! (Well, kind of. Okay, so I was wearing the same shirt, and Noah was much smaller & more squished in there!)
On the morning of Noah's birthday, I awoke thinking back to that same morning, one year earlier. I remembered getting up really early (after a restless night) & taking my last shower as a non-Mom; of calling my parents to tell them to meet us there; of nervously walking into the hospital with my bag in hand, ready for my 7:00 a.m. appointment to be induced, feeling strange because we weren't rushing like I had expected (and hoped). They broke my water & turned the pitocin on by 8, and by 12:08 Noah arrived. What a morning!

Heather is Getting Married!
Noah's Auntie Heather, my older sister, is tying the knot this Friday! Mike Etcheverry is a lucky man (and a really cool guy). It's going to be a gorgeous ceremony at the Twin Falls church we grew up in, and a beautiful outdoor reception at the home of our family's friends. And Noah is going to be one of the ring bearers!
So you'll have to excuse my absence from blogging for the next week or so - I will post pictures from Noah's birthday party soon!
