Our Christmas Tree Adventure

Dave & I decided to go old-school in getting our Christmas tree this year. The weekend of Dec. 8, we got a permit & set out to go cut one from the Boise National Forest. According to the map provided us by the Forest Service, we could cut one almost anywhere off of the road leading to Idaho City. We set out on a Saturday morning (it had snowed the night before, so the drive was beautiful!) and thought the job wouldn't take us more than 3-4 hours.

Okay, so we underestimated how difficult it would really be! Long story short, the map was really misleading & it was nearly impossible to find a spot to cut a tree off of any semi-driveable roads. We started down a snow-packed dirt road & quickly wished we hadn't, and spent a large portion of the morning inching along on a sheet of ice trying not to get stuck. (Kudos to Dave for his good driving - there's no way I could've gotten us out of there!) We were quite frustrated to return without a tree...but we did get some cute pictures on the way!

And don't worry - we did eventually get a tree. We reverted back to our old tradition of letting the fine folks at Home Depot take care of the cutting for us. And my parents were in town to celebrate my birthday a week early, so they helped us decorate!
